The Lehigh Valley has lost a longtime polka legend. Officials said 85-year-old “Jolly” Joe Timmer died in his sleep late Monday night at the Alexandria Manor senior living center in Nazareth, Northampton County.
Timmer used to own WGPA-AM “Sunny 1100” radio in Bethlehem. He sold it in March.
The local music legend has been broadcasting or leading his polka band for more than 60 years. Timmer even played the first day of the first-ever Musikfest.
